Well, he honestly wouldn't be surprised if Ward was debating life choices, especially when they were all trapped here like rats in a cage until they could be eliminated, put to use or removed from the country. He knew that Ward had been in deep with some division of SHIELD though he hadn't cared or bugged for details about it because they really spent as much time apart as they could without straining the bond that locked him together.
"Miss the old crew now that you're stuck with this one?" Of course, he could appreciate someone wanting to be at the ready, but Ward was such an easy target when sneaking off to be alone. He just had to go and pick on the guy a bit for the sake of having something to do.
"I was just checking in to make sure you weren't doing some double-dealing. We all know we're all good at it after all," he said with a knowing smirk.
