Ward would never admit it, but yes, he did miss the old crew. He'd grown to like them, to like the idea of fitting in somewhere. He didn't want to hurt any of them. He wasn't following HYDRA, he was following Garrett. It was a hard line to straddle, but he'd done it. He didn't always agree with what HYDRA believed. Any double dealing he did was because of Garrett. With him gone, Ward's loyalties didn't really lie with anyone in particular.
He'd go back if he thought Coulson would take him, but he knew that Phil didn't want him. No amount of groveling would ever get him back in.
"No double dealing. Just trying to keep myself busy. If I don't, I might go crazy. Well... crazier." He smiled and went back to cleaning his gun, trying not to focus on Brock. His body threatened to betray him. Ward hoped if he ignored it, that maybe he wouldn't feel the feelings he felt for his bond. Especially when he was so close.
"Want me to do double dealings? Need some help with something?" He shrugged his shoudlers as he worked. "I'm listening."
