He watched her come closer, aware that this could end in a fight of some kind right in the streets, though he was hoping to avoid the attention that it would draw. He shifted when she was close enough, reaching into his bag of groceries slowly and with a disarming smirk if there ever was one. He made certain that his movements were clean but unhurried so she didn't think he was going to pull a knife or a gun on her. Not yet anyway. That might come later. For now, he instead pulled out an apple and offered it to her. A gift, a show of being able to provide. It overrode any disgust he might have felt for doing so.
"You know that's only going to happen so long, babe," he replied. "Sooner or later, we're going to mess up. However, to be fair, if we plan this right, no one has to know about it and we don't have to see each other that often. It's all about the contingency plan though."
