[Swept up in those strong arms earned a rumble of appreciation as Steve sprinted them to the water's edge. He expected to be set to his feet to totter in the rest of the way, but no, his mate was ever thoughtful and took him right into the water. His tail emerged faster than usual, the physiological changes of his lower half a relief as he twisted and dove under the rolling waves.

The water made carrying the child's weight easier, and even though the contracts were still painful, every bit of the experience switched to a sensation of rightness. He swam slow, his muscles stronger and pushing as he circled back to where his mate was still waded chest-deep in the water.

Birth happened in the shallows, and he returned to set his hands on Steve's shoulders so that he could lean in to kiss the blond. And then he breathed into his mate and used his tail to sweep Steve's feet out so that they could both enjoy being under the waves and the safety of the depths in which he would bring their child into the world.]
