There's nothing in this world quite like a true, blue best friend that you can rely on. They've been with you through thick and thin, good and bad. You want to have fun? They're the first person you look for, because they always know how to bring the best out in you. You need a shoulder to cry on? Don't worry, they're already here. You need to bury a body? ...you should probably reconsider your priorities, but you know your best friend will be there with a shovel and a smile. You'd never ruin this friendship for ANYTHING in the world.

Something's brewing that may do just that, though. One of you has feelings, has for a long time, and that spells trouble. Unless you keep that to yourself and remain platonic, of course. Repression in this case might be a good thing.

Only it's too late. The cat's out of the bag, whether it's by confession or by accident. What to do, what to do? If feelings aren't returned, can you turn down a friend, or will you force something that isn't there just to make them happy? If feelings are returned, will you risk changing the perfect thing you have?

Steve looked down at the ground for a moment trying to control his breathing, because really how could he have been so stupid. He really needed to learn some impulse control.

"I just don't want you to hit me, I couldn't handle that, and I figured if I just left then I could live my life thinking you weren't mad at me, even though you probably are," Steve said in a rush, shrinking back slightly.

"What does me being a virgin have to do with anything anyway?" Steve said softly, as he shuffled back to the couch and sat down.

James knew that pushing Steve too hard was not good for the man's heart or lungs, but this was the biggest bomb dropped since the whole war had begun a few months ago. That war had nothing to do with America, but he still knew about it. The most important thing was Steve to him, and he didn't feel angry or disgusted at the idea. It was... kind of nice to know he had appeal to all manner of people.

"I'm not going to hit you," he said softly, a promise in his voice as he slowly made his way over to the couch where Steve had sunk back down. He plopped himself down next to his friend to show his good faith but also that the declaration wouldn't get the reaction he knew so many would give. "And I'm not mad. Flattered actually."

He reached out and ruffled his friend's hair. "It means you haven't the experience to decide what the information will do. You realize how dangerous this is, though?"

Steve snorted softly. "If you say so," He didn't believe his friend for one second, but he hadn't hit him yet, so maybe that was a good sign.

"Flattered?" He looked over at Bucky shocked. He never for one moment would have thought he would hear that come out of his friend's mouth. "I don't understand. How can you be flattered?"

It would be so easy to just lean into his touch and just forget about everything that was said, but he couldn't do that, especially after his question.

Steve looked at his best friend sharply. "You think I don't know that? Why the hell do you think I didn't want to tell you in the first place. I can just add this to my list of things that make me a complete and total outcast."

He wasn't so sure what was shocking about being flattered that someone he respected and had been friends with happened to like him beyond friendship. It seemed the ultimate compliment, though he supposed that most people would be weirded out about it. He wasn't and that was all that mattered to him. In some ways, he admitted curiosity because he was now thinking about it. Steve had the way of changing his perceptions, challenging his ideas of the world and how people dealt with other people.

"Because I'm obviously attractive enough to grab your attention that way," he said as he shifted his arms and folded them behind his head, looking utterly relaxed even about the topic. Cool and calm had always been his mantra. "It's a great compliment, Steve."

Well, as long as Steve realized that people didn't consider the attraction of two men normal, he was fine. He would protect that as much as he liked to think he kept Steve at least a little out of trouble. "You can trust me with anything," he said firmly, the teasing nature dropping away utterly. "Nothing you say will turn me against you. We're to the end, my friend."

"Please don't do that," Steve whispered, standing up. "Don't pretend that what I told you, was in anyway normal, or what you expected when I walked in the door okay?"

He looked around, and grabbed his coat.

"I'm just going to go okay?"

He grew serious under the accusations and sat forward on the couch as he watched Steve. He sensed his friend's agitation and discomfort, and he drew him to his feet in return. "It wasn't expected, but I'm not pretending anything, Stevie. It doesn't bother me."

He stepped forward and caught Steve's cheeks as his friend tried slipping on the jacket. "Do I at least get a kiss good-bye? I want one, you know."

Stupid arms, and Stupid coat, was the only thought that went through Steve's head as he got caught up in his coat. He was focused on the coat, so he didn't notice his friend moving so close to him.

"W-what?" He stammered out, staring at his friend. "You want to kiss me?" He whispered. He shrugged out of his jacket, not caring when it fell to the floor.

"Bucky..."

His hands remained pressed on Steve's cheeks, his fingers hooking a little around the underside of his friend's jaw so that he could apply just a little pressure and draw Steve's face up to look at his. He smirked at the stammered words and shook his head a bit. He wondered if kissing a man was like kissing a woman; it couldn't be that different, right?

He ignored the sound of Steve's jacket hitting the floor. "Well, I can't kiss myself, now can I?" In the end, it came to a joke before he lowered his mouth over Steve's, releasing the tension on his fingers so his friend could pull away if it was unwanted attention.

Steve knew that any moment he would would wake up, and this would all be some cosmic joke right? That's what he thought anyway, but that didn't seem to be happening in the slightest.

His breath was caught in his throat as Bucky moved closer and suddenly he was having the breath kissed out of him. He should have pushed him away, but his body had other ideas, as his arms wrapped around Bucky. If this was going to be his only chance than he was making the most of it.

Kissing a man was indeed exactly like kissing a woman, and he didn't even know why he thought it might be different. Steve's lips were soft and warm, caressing his with a sort of awkwardness that amused him but also endeared him to his best friend at the same time. He was the far more experienced one of their two, but instead of mocking, he nudged, shifted and caressed their lips together to show how good it felt to kiss someone.

He stepped in when he felt little arms sliding around his body, taking his time with his friend before he slowly withdrew from the kiss and smiled. "You, my friend, need a bit of practice."

Steve had dreams about this moment. It was the stuff that his fantasies were made of. He got by on these for the last year, and suddenly it was very much real.

Steve was waiting for the other shoe to drop quite honestly. He wanted nothing more than to pull Bucky back in, and kiss him like his life depended on it.

He looked up at his friend, smiling back. "Why?" He asked softly.

He wasn't certain if he was imagining a bit of a happy dazed expression on Steve's face or if it was how the shadows of the room overlaid the other man's expression. Either way, he noted that Steve hadn't actually released him, and he became far more aware of the other's small body pressed against his own.

"Because you're a bit awkward. Everyone needs a bit a practice," he said with a flash of a warm smile. "How can you be expected to be good at something if you don't practice, right?"

"Hey," Steve said with a laugh. "If I am so awkward than why did you kiss me in the first place?" He asked, aware also that he hadn't let go of his friend.

He really should do that.

"Is that what this is? Practice?"

"Because I was curious about your skills or lack of," James replied with another smirk, this one plainly teasing. He knew that Steve hadn't kissed people before, or at least he thought that. That didn't seem like the kind of thing Steve could hide from him after all.

He also noted that Steve was still clinging to him like a little monkey. He said and did nothing to dislodge his friend.

"That's up to you, I suppose."

Steve realized belatedly that he was still basically clinging to his best friend and he felt like an idiot.

He laughed at Buck's answer, and was trying to think of a graceful way out of this when he realized that Bucky had made no move to let him go either.

"You didn't let go?"

At the laughter, he smiled brightly, having always liked pulling that sort of sound out of Steve. Times like they had grown up in meant that there wasn't a lot to laugh about often, but they had each other and that was what mattered. As long as they got to laugh.

At the question, he slung an arm around Steve's shoulders lazily. "Neither have you, I hasten to point out." He shifted his hips back and forth and raised an eyebrow. "How about that dance lesson I keep promising you and you keep putting me off?"

Steve blushed again, as he looked around. "Oh, well.... I was enjoying myself," He admitted softly. Who knew if this would ever happen again, and Steve wanted to enjoy it.

"Okay," He said quietly, as he tried to follow. Tried being the key word.

"You blush like a dame, Steve," he chided playfully, pulling his friend more against him as he set his hand on Steve's hip and took the other hand in his own. "Hand on my shoulder," he said as he pulled Steve along into a dance... or actually a shuffle. His feet got stepped on a lot, but it only amused him.

Their hips brushed more than once, but he didn't mind. In fact... he kind of liked it. "I should have made you learn years ago," he commented when they stumbled through the steps. "Maybe I can bribe you with kisses to learn now, huh?"

"You say it, like it is a bad thing?" Steve replied softly, as he did indeed put his hand on Bucky's shoulder.

Steve's breath caught in his throat a little at the brushing of the hips, and he had to resist laying his head on his shoulder, just to see what it would feel like to be truly held by him.

"Do you want me to kiss you again?"

"Nah, it brings colour to you pale cheeks," he teased as they rocked to some song that he had in his head. He would have hummed the tune, but that would have prevented him from talking, and he did enjoy teasing his friend.

"I was the one that kissed you, remember? If you want one, you have to build up the guts and take a risk there, Rogers," he said with a smirk. "Go for it. I won't bite." He might nibble those tempting lips though.

Steve stared at his friend for a long moment, a small smile playing at his lips.

He reached up, and snaked his around around his neck, as he pulled Bucky forward, pressing his lips against his friend, kissing him greedily.

He continued to smile, letting Steve make the decision on whether or not another kiss was in order. He wouldn't push but neither would he oppose. Yet, his smile momentarily widened when he felt hands around his neck and ducked his head to kiss the other in return.

He continued them dancing a bit, more swaying back and forth as he found himself amused by the enthusiasm. He returned it with skill, flicking his tongue against Steve's lips to tease as he allowed his eyes to close.

Steve was really not sure, how long they continued kissing. He just knew that he didn't want it to end.

He knew that it must though, because suddenly he was having difficulty breathing.

He reluctantly pulled away, a dopey smile on his face.

"Are you okay?"

He was far more used to long drawn out kisses, and he enjoys this one as much as he enjoys any of the others he's managed to steal from the dames he usually goes out with. This just happened to be more special because it was with Steve.

He shifted his hand from his friend's hip to set his hand against the side of his friend's neck, using his thumb to keep Steve's chin tipped up towards him even as they pull apart.

"Perfectly fine. You going to have an asthma attack?"

Steve was having difficulty breathing, but it wasn't because of his asthma. Sure, he had kissed a couple of guys before, but nothing was like what just happened with Bucky.

"Mmm... I great," He said softly. "Really great, but I'm trying to figure out where we go from here?"
